Peace Education Sharing: Elementary
Time for sharing is always built into the Peace Education
workshops. Participants are at various stages of involvement
with their peace activities. Sharing becomes very valuable
in the process of creating a community of peace educators.
Rebecca J.
She is working with a church group of young people to help them get excited about service. Her process: - Record their stories of what they see as a problem, something that strikes them as “just not right.”
- Have them imagine how things could be different. They may even have a very practical way to do something different.
She used the image of the eagle as seeing the “bigger picture” from a different perspective. To transform an issue, become the eagle, sit, pause and breath. VIOLENCE = LOVE NICE (Same letters transformed!) Caroline T.
After School Club called “Discovery Club” “The Door to Peace is Always Open” = the theme used with the following project: Tiles were decorated and attached to an old door that had recessed panels. Heather F.
Poster Idea Her ESL kids each get a puzzle piece (enlarged and cut out of paper) on which they will put their picture. Eventually, it all fits together on the wall. Jeanne L.
Her students created a Peace Wall made of individual tiles. They worked with a company called Make It Products to complete the peace tiles. For more information go to: www.makeitproducts.com or contact her at school: centervilleel@isd12.com Andrea V.
